Clint Jones Nursing Award
In 2002 the Foundation for Healthy Communities launched the 3-year NH
Nursing Workforce Partnership bringing practicing nurses and nurse education
leaders together to distribute $2 million dollars in forgivable loans to
hundreds of aspiring nurses in college and to practicing nurses who received
specialty training or advanced degrees.
Clint Jones was the man who managed this partnership at the Foundation and
he brought strong professional management skills and an extraordinary level
of enthusiasm and creativity to this task. The Partnership plan had been to
engage 800 nurses statewide in this program but with Clint’s energy more
than 2,000 nurses were engaged in training and education. Unfortunately,
Clint was diagnosed with cancer while part-way into the project but his
commitment to his work did not waiver, in fact, it bolstered his belief in
the power of nurses to help patients heal and be cared for. Clint died in
2006 and before he did the Foundation spoke with him about creating
something to recognize his work. Clint wanted us to do something that would
encourage people new in the nursing profession. This award was created in
his memory. It recognizes an RN in New Hampshire who has been in practice at
least 1 year but no more than 6 years and who demonstrates an exceptional
commitment to high-quality patient care and to the nursing profession.
