CATCH Kids Club
CATCH Kids Club (Coordinated Approach To Child Health) is an evidenced-based after-school, summer, and community recreation program designed to promote healthy physical activity and eating behaviors in elementary school-age children. Research by the University of Texas showed that CATCH Kids Club can significantly increase moderate to vigorous physical activity in elementary school aged children.
From 2007-2014, the Foundation for Healthy Communities led the NH CATCH Kids Club Project. This was a multi-year project focused on working with NH out-of-school programs to develop and effectively implement policies and practices that would support healthy eating and physical activity for the children and families they serve.
You can get a taste of the project’s success by reading our 5-year CATCH Kids Club Report -highlighting five inspirational sites who embedded healthy eating and physical activity into their every-day curriculum with children.
Beginning in 2012, we embarked on a partnership with ACROSS NH to provide training and technical assistance to out-of-school program directors and staff. The goal is to provide them with the skills and tools they need to lead efforts in their organizations so they can:
- Assess their current policies
- Look for gaps and opportunities
- Make the necessary changes to ensure healthy environments where physical activity and healthy eating are the norm
This includes training in the CATCH Kids Club program for out-of-school staff.
We are excited to be able to “hand over the baton” to ACROSS NH. ACROSS NH is an organization committed to providing statewide technical assistance and professional development opportunities to after school providers to support their work in creating high quality, innovative programs for school-aged children.
Funded by a Growing Up Healthy grant from the Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, the Foundation for Healthy Communities oversaw implementation of the CATCH program in New Hampshire afterschool and summer camp programs between 2007 - 2014.
